Watermaker Privacy Policy: scope and operator
The Watermaker project operates watermaker.app as an independent public-link utility. Contact hello@watermaker.app about this policy or a privacy request. We do not claim an affiliation with Instagram or Meta.
Information needed for a download
When you submit a link, the service processes that public Instagram URL, the request time, technical connection information and the result needed to identify available files. A parsing provider, Apify, receives the necessary public link. Media hosts and our delivery infrastructure receive network requests needed to obtain and deliver a file.
Short-lived server records connect a task, source files, expiry times and limited-purpose access tokens. We do not ask for your Instagram password, verification code or session cookies, and we do not create a personal download-history account.
Temporary files and retention
Video preparation can temporarily write the source video, matching audio and a prepared output to controlled server storage. Input files are scheduled for cleanup after successful preparation or task failure. Prepared files are usable only for their short-lived delivery window; cancellation and expiry also trigger cleanup. These files are not a permanent media library or an archive for your account.
Asset and token authorisation lasts at most ten minutes. Preparation and transfer use a shorter job deadline, initially five minutes, and known source expiry can shorten either window. Expired access is rejected on every request; physical record and file cleanup normally runs on a thirty-second cycle and at service restart, rather than promising erasure at the exact expiry instant. Retries do not extend an old token indefinitely. Minimal cost totals, provider-run identifiers and recovery records remain to prevent restarts from resetting usage budgets; these records do not contain the submitted Instagram URL. Infrastructure providers can retain access or security logs under their own policies.
Optional analytics starts with your choice
Google Analytics 4 is optional. Before you choose, and when you select “Only necessary,” the site does not load the GA tag or send analytics events. If you allow it, limited events help us understand which pages and tool stages are used. Submitted Instagram links, source addresses, access tokens, clipboard text and free-form input are not sent as analytics event fields.
The browser stores your necessary preference locally. On the same origin, an updated choice is shared with other open tabs. If storage cannot be read or saved, optional analytics remains off. The footer’s “Analytics choices” control lets you review or change the preference.
Withdrawing stops new optional measurement and clears the GA cookies accessible to this site. It does not undo a request already sent or delete previously received data from Google. If you allow analytics again, a new analytics context starts; old buffered tool events are not intentionally replayed.
Analytics retention settings
Our GA4 property’s event and user data retention controls are set to two months. The option to reset retention on new activity is off. These settings describe the property’s configured retention controls; they are not a promise that every aggregate report or every record held by Google is deleted after exactly two months.
Other services and disclosures
Our server and deployment infrastructure deliver the website and files. Cloudflare may provide DNS and R2 hosting for this site’s public images; these resource requests are separate from the GA4 choice. We do not put user download media into the public image bucket. Service providers can process data in locations outside your country.
No advertising code is installed in this release, and Watermaker does not use advertising cookies or web beacons to serve ads. Optional GA4 analytics can set measurement cookies only after you allow it. Google Signals and ads personalisation are disabled in this site’s GA4 configuration; allowing analytics does not enable advertising measurement or personalised ads.
The analytics preference is not an advertising consent platform. If advertising or a materially different data use is introduced, the site’s disclosures and controls must be updated before it is enabled.
Your requests and policy updates
You can stop using the tool, cancel an active preparation, change the analytics choice, or contact us about information processed by the project. Explain your request without sending passwords or unnecessary sensitive documents. Some requests depend on information actually retained and the rights applicable to your situation.
This policy is dated October 25, 2026. Material changes will be reflected here. Read the Terms of Use for service and content-rights responsibilities.
